Denver, CO - It seems like just yesterday my family was unpacking the POD. It is hard to believe it has been 8 months since our move to the beautiful Rocky Mountains. We have experienced so much in a short amount of time, and I wanted to say thank you to all who have made us feel so welcome.
It is my pleasure to write to you today to give you an update on the many exciting changes that are happening in the Rocky Mountain Chapter. There are many reasons members join an organization. ABC is not unlike any other organization; some join for our political and legislative representation, and some join because of the world class safety and education sessions. Many belong because of the networking and business development opportunities we provide, while others join because our strength in numbers allows them to save money on our business partnerships with companies like Verizon, FedEx, GM. You are also probably familiar with the saying, “you only get out of it what you put into it.” ABC is refocusing our efforts to create the conditions to expand on all these opportunities. More specifically, the Rocky Mountain Chapter is developing Regional Leadership Councils in Denver, Northern Colorado, Southern Colorado, Western Colorado, and Wyoming. The Regional Leadership Councils are comprised of members with the purpose of serving the membership at the local level, engaging members and providing value. Many of the councils will have a Workforce Development (Education) Committee, a Governmental Affairs Committee and a Membership Committee. ABC will also continue develop our strong Young Professionals (YP) Committee to work with all the councils. All of this requires a re-alignment of ABC staff to service the leadership councils and corresponding committees. Brett Denison will lead the charge in Southern and Western Colorado. Sydney Sachs will continue to lead the YP Committee and will eventually lead the Northern Colorado Council. Kim Grosel will continue to head up our education efforts and expand opportunities in Wyoming. Joanna Johnson and I will focus on Denver and our major functions and events, such as Excellence in Construction Awards. The focus of the new structure is to engage more members to get involved, gain value from their membership and give back to the industry. I love the quote, ‘LEADERSHIP IS THE AUTHENTIC EXPRESSION OF WHO YOU ARE IN SUCH A WAY THAT CREATES THE CONDITIONS FOR OTHERS TO ACHIEVE’. The councils provide us a way to move our industry forward. ABC wants you to get more involved in your industry. Please consider serving on a committee, task force or council. Email me at dcarlson@abcrmc.org or ask any staff member how you can get involved.
