Denver, CO – The Associated Builders and Contractors Rocky Mountain Chapter (ABCRMC) hosted a Safety Conference & Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Sheraton Denver West to educate members and recognize those who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to safety. The event celebrated collective efforts towards safety and education in the construction industry.
A Safety Showcase Expo was open throughout the day; Barrett Business Services, Inc (BBSI), Colorado Safety Supply Company, Preferred Safety Products, Inc. and SFI Compliance hosted booths at the venue to demonstrate their innovative safety practices to the attendees. The day opened with a breakfast featuring Colorado Safety Supply Company’s Kathy Freeman. Through the theme of “Be Here Now” she shared her inspiring story of how she defeated the odds of a challenging childhood and developed a passion for touching lives through the construction safety industry. Following the breakfast, attendees moved into one of two educational sessions. Dr. Anamaria Popescu, Director at Berkeley Research Group, presented on dispute resolution in a session titled “The Best Defense is a Good Offense: Keys to Effective Risk Mitigation and Dispute Resolution.” Simultaneously, a panel discussion on “Fire Awareness, Prevention and Crisis Management for Jobsites” was led by Dan Johnson with SFI Compliance, Dana Foley with SWRO Nationwide Insurance, and Bruce Kral with West Metro Fire. After completing the educational sessions, attendees moved into an awards luncheon to recognize workforce development efforts and the ABCRMC members’ commitment to safety. The safety awards were presented to member individuals and companies who showed exceptional safety efforts in their categories. Luncheon keynote speaker Sam Walker, Executive Director of the CO Department of Labor and Employment, spoke to the group about their role in Colorado’s recent growth and how “[ABC members] reflect the principle of care.” BOB PIPER CONSTRUCTION EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS To promote continuing education in the construction field, ABCRMC presented the following four high school students with the Bob Piper Construction Education Scholarship:
