Denver, CO – The Rocky Mountain Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) honored a number of their member companies for their efforts in making safety a priority on construction sites during their Safety & Education Awards banquet on Thursday, May 19th. More than 200 ABC members and guests were in attendance at the Embassy Suites Downtown Denver.
Prior to the awards portion of the ceremony, three very deserving Colorado high school students received the ABC Bob Piper Construction Education Scholarships totaling $3,000. Receiving scholarships were Un-Dre Woodruff, who is a student at Colorado High School Charter School, planning on attending Emily Griffiths Technical College to pursue training in welding. Recipient Devin Slade Pletcher is a student at Yuma High School and is planning on attending Red Rocks Community College to study to become an electrician. The third winner was Diego Diaz from Del Norte Colorado. He attends Del Norte High School and will attend Colorado Mesa University to pursue a degree in Construction Management.

Two additional awards recognized individuals, rather than companies, for their outstanding safety records were presented. The first award, for Outstanding Field Professional, was given to Dan Locke with RK Mechanical Inc. in Denver. Secondly, the Tony Dietrich Safety Professional of the Year Award was received by Tom Alvarez with RK Mechanical in Denver.
Denver – Members of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Rocky Mountain Chapter, received recognition from their peers within the commercial construction industry at the annual Associated Builders and Contractors Safety and Scholarship Awards Banquet held at the Embassy Suites Downtown Denver.
The Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) awards are granted by ABC National based on submitted applications. The awards are given in five categories; bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond. The awards are based on 20 key elements of a contractor’s safety program that includes safety policies, employee commitment and training, management commitment and budgeting. The STEP program is an effective tool for newly formed companies as well.
Receiving the highest award of the elite Diamond STEP level were Heating & Plumbing Engineers of Denver, Interstate Electrical Contractors of Wheat Ridge, LPR Construction Co. of Loveland, Milender White Construction Co. of Arvada, and TIC - The Industrial Company of Englewood.
