Denver, CO – The Associated Builders and Contractors Rocky Mountain Chapter (ABCRMC) hosted their annual Safety Conference & Awards Luncheon last Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Westin in Westminster. The purpose of the event was to educate members and recognize those who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to safety.
The morning began with a breakfast featuring keynote speaker, Lori Frederic of Balance Biomechanics, who presented on the importance of stretching and ergonomics to avoid injury and ultimately improve employee health and safety. Following breakfast, participants had the opportunity to attend two of the following educational sessions offered:
After attending the educational sessions, attendees moved into an awards luncheon to recognize workforce development efforts and ABCRMC members’ commitment to safety. The safety awards were presented to member individuals and companies who showed exceptional safety efforts in their categories. BOB PIPER CONSTRUCTION EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS Eighteen years ago, the Rocky Mountain chapter took steps toward building the construction workforce by creating a scholarship fund to aid students who will be continuing their education in a construction related field. This year the chapter raised over $15,000, which was awarded to the following scholarship recipients:
INDIVIDUAL AWARDS Tony Dietrich Safety Professional of the Year Dave Ruddy, Pinkard Construction Dave has been invaluable to the process of rebuilding a proactive and positive safety culture at Pinkard that is unmatched. His most recent initiative is conducting audio-visual toolbox talks on each jobsite. Using av equipment onsite, Dave delivers far more impactful toolbox talks that bring greater employee participation. His leadership, knowledge, dedication, and professionalism is second to none, and he is very deserving of recognition for the positive difference he is making in his industry. Outstanding Field Professional of the Year Logan Doolen, Duro Electric Logan has built a strong foundation of trust and integrity on all the projects he has been a part of. His commitment to building strong relationships with his crew, other trades, general contractor partners, and the customer has led Duro to profitable jobs and additional contract work. He is often asked specifically to oversee projects by the general contractor because of his attitude and leadership. He is conscious of the safety and health for all workers on the project, not just those employed by Duro. Every task is thought out, planned, and executed with safety in mind. SAFETY TRAINING AND EVALUATION PROCESS (STEP) AWARDS At the awards luncheon, ABCRMC presented 46 member companies with STEP awards for meeting specified standards in various areas of construction safety. STEP awards are granted by ABC National based on the total number of points received in 24 key elements of a contractor’s safety program as well as Bureau of Labor Statistics and OSHA statistics.
