2012 LEGISLATURE

Supporting Pro-Merit Shop & Pro-Business Agenda

Under the guidance of the Board of Directors, the Rocky Mountain Chapter’s Government Affairs Committee develops ABC’s Legislative Agenda.  ABC works through its Government Affairs Committee in the identification of subjects and the establishment of policy on issues that affect our members. This committee is utilized to reviews legislation and meets to evaluate legislative initiatives to be considered by the Colorado General Assembly during its four-month session, take positions on these proposals, and communicates the position of the industry to the appropriate legislators or regulatory agencies.

Our lobbying team creates a detailed list of bills that the association opposes or supports at the Colorado General Assembly and the Office of the Governor. This agenda is updated each Friday during the legislative session.

Federal Legislation

ABC's priority issue in 2009 is to prevent passage of legislation that robs employees of their right to a private ballot election when deciding upon unionization in the workplace. The right to a private ballot, a cornerstone of our democracy, guarantees workers protection from coercion and intimidation.  ABC will oppose any efforts to undermine this through legislation such as the Employee Free Choice Act (HR 800/S 1041).

State Legislation

Passing meaningful prompt pay legislation is the top legislative priority of the chapter. ABC is once again working with a broad coalition of industry trade associations to pass legislation that will adequately address prompt payment reforms needed within the industry. Our Government Affairs Committee is aggressively pursuing passage of payment reform by working with Colorado legislators, construction trade associations, as well as public and private entities.
